The Problem
Posed with the crisis of animal shelters and the high-kill rate of shelter animals, I set out to find the reasons behind people’s choice to adopt versus shop and how to make the process more accessible, streamlined, and simple.
The Idea
A Universal Application that applies to all associated shelters and a representative program meant to give first-time owners a direct point of contact to those who have adopted before.
The Process
Identifying the pain points many users face when adopting animals, I conducted my research on users who had adopted before. I asked them a series of questions trying to find similarities in their experiences. A few things were clear, adoption was more affordable but more cumbersome and intense compared to regular pet store and breeder purchases.
In order to pinpoint the type of person I was designing for, I created a persona and an empathy map based on the users I interviewed. Based on the data, I wanted to create a website that would be easy to navigate and incredibly informative, making adoption more appealing than going to a pet store or going to a breeder.

The Product
Clear and simple information on the landing page that details the steps to adoption and information about the Universal Application, a key feature to making the adoption process easier and less frustrating for users.
A comprehensive search page that aggregates the best animals based on your pre-determined filters and preferences.
An easy-to-access, easy-to-complete universal application that would work with all partner shelters to help streamline the process of finding your fur-ever friend!
When creating the Universal Application, I aggregated the most commonly asked questions from multiple shelters in order to create an application that would be able to used universally across the board.
